Ham at 20
For the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum's 20th anniversary, Jennifer Farrell of Starshaped Press created a poster project to raise funds for the museum. Multiple printers were invited to create a print, which were then released each month throughout 2019. The printers were given creative freedom and the only requirements were that they use wood type and say "Ham at 20" somewhere. This print was created in collaboration with Cathy Batliner. We went a more abstract route, showcasing the wood type from Hatch's collection. The best typographical moments were stenciled out in shapes reminiscent of Hamilton's maple half rounds, which the type is cut from. The stenciling was done by using a cut paper stencil on top of the print and the tympan on the press cut in select places.
